Cocktail
Glossary of Terms
A cocktail (also known as a mixed drink) is an alcoholic beverage which is made up of two or more ingredients, of which one must be a spirit. Cocktails were originally made from a mixture of spirits, sugar, water and bitters, whereas most modern cocktails are made from spirits with a mixer, such as soda water or fruit juice. Cocktails are typically made in a cocktail shaker, but may also be made in a glass and stirred. Different cocktails are often served specific glasses.
