Shake

Glossary of Terms

To shake, or shaking, is a method of mixing cocktails with ice to combine and cool the ingredients. A cocktail most requires shaking when it contains sugar based, thick or flavourful mixers such as fruit juices, cream liqueurs and simple syrup. The process of making a shaken cocktail involves adding the liquid ingredients to a shaker cup with ice, placing a lid on the container, shaking the shaker manually for around 10 seconds and straining the drink into a glass.
